Pay It Forward Scholarship Fund Reaches £500,000

The GlobalMind University's Pay It Forward Scholarship Fund has reached a cumulative total of £500,000 in donor contributions — a milestone that reflects the generosity of alumni, faculty, corporate partners, and friends of the university who believe that financial barriers should never prevent qualified learners from completing their studies.

Pay It Forward was established in 2022 with a simple premise: graduates and supporters contribute what they can today so that the next generation of students can afford application fees, examination resits, thesis binding, and other costs that fall outside tuition-free online delivery. Unlike traditional scholarships tied to competitive merit alone, Pay It Forward prioritises demonstrated need, academic progress, and community contribution.

Since launch, the fund has supported more than 840 award instances across undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels. Average award sizes range from £75 for application fee relief to £350 for comprehensive examination support. The Development Office processes applications within ten working days, and successful recipients receive confirmation directly through the student portal billing section.

This year's milestone campaign, led by alumni ambassador Dr James Okonkwo (DBA 2024), focused on "Complete the Circuit" — encouraging each graduate to fund at least one examination fee for a current student. Corporate matching gifts from three partner organisations doubled several donation streams during the spring appeal.

Transparency is central to the programme. GMU publishes anonymised impact statistics each term: number of awards granted, geographic distribution of recipients, and completion rates among supported students. Internal analysis shows that recipients of Pay It Forward support complete credentials at rates statistically comparable to the wider student body, confirming that targeted financial assistance improves persistence without compromising academic standards.

The fund also underwrites emergency micro-grants for students facing sudden hardship — for example, temporary loss of employment or unexpected technology replacement after device failure. Student Services coordinates these requests with strict confidentiality and rapid turnaround.

Looking forward, GMU aims to reach £750,000 by December 2026. Planned initiatives include a recurring monthly giving programme, legacy pledges, and regional alumni chapter fundraising events in London, Manchester, Lagos, and Dubai. The Development Office is recruiting volunteer class agents for each graduating cohort to steward peer giving.
